Synergic Partners, Spanish consulting firm specializing in advanced data analysis, is the only company outside of North America to have a partnership agreement with Columbia University in New York. Among several great American corporations, Synergic Partners is the only European industry affiliate of the Data Science Institute (DSI), the first institution in the world on the subject.
The main objectives of the DSI, the leading educational institution on Big Data and Data Science, are to be a driving force in Data Science and to attract the best possible interdisciplinary professors at Columbia University, in addition to acquiring talent and maintaining a strong relationship with the industry. With this in mind, the DSI is divided into six centers: Cybersecurity, Financial Analytics, Foundations of Data Science, Health Analytics, New Media and Smart Cities.
The greatest experts in Data Science and Big Data met on Wednesday, April 5 at Columbia University in New York for the symposium ‘Data Science Day’. The day included a presentation on the latest research of the DSI on the academic side and, on the industrial side, the focus was on the health and finance sectors.
The firm also took the opportunity to meet with Sharon Sputz, Director of Strategic Programs at the Institute, to evaluate the work done together over the last year as well as to exchange impressions of the future trends of Big Data and Data Science. During the meeting, the university expressed its desire to continue collaborating with Synergic Partners in the analysis of real data in fields such as telephones, crime and the optimization of parameters for certain deep learning algorithms.
The trip also allowed the Synergic Partners team to meet with Amen Ra Mashariki, the head of the data analysis office of the city of New York, the Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics (MODA). They shared with him the next steps towards obtaining new open data in NYC and continuing with the project that Synergic Partners is carrying out on crime prediction with the collaboration of the New York City Hall.
Santiago González, Director of Innovation at Synergic Partners, highlighted “the high degree of sensitivity towards security and trust in the use of data and, above all, the efficient use of IT resources in the exploitation of these data” shown by both the speakers and the attendees of Data Science Day.
